Google Just Changed How I'm Thinking About Content
A few days ago, I stumbled across something that completely changed the way I'm looking at my content...
I'll admit it.
I've never been the person who gets excited about SEO.
I'd much rather be styling a room, talking about healthy aging, planning my next Caribbean trip, or sharing products I genuinely love.
Google? Analytics? Search Console?
That all felt a little intimidating.
But yesterday, I finally verified my website with Google.
As I started exploring Search Console, something clicked.
I realized I've been spending so much time creating content for social media... but not nearly enough time creating content that can be found months—or even years—from now.
That was a lightbulb moment.
The Problem with Social Media
Don't get me wrong—I love Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok.
Some of my favorite opportunities have come because of social media.
I've had brands discover me, collaborations turn into paid work, and even had one of my videos licensed and run as an ad.
But here's the reality...
A post can perform really well today...
...and tomorrow it's buried.
You spend hours creating something beautiful, and within a few days it's almost impossible to find again.
That's just how social media works.
Then I Learned About Google's Latest Update
Google has started giving creators more tools through Search Console, making it easier to understand how our content is discovered.
Instead of thinking only about social media algorithms, I'm starting to think about search.
What are people actually looking for?
Because those people are my audience.
They're searching for things like:
Decorating ideas that don't look cookie-cutter.
Healthy aging after 50.
Wellness products that are actually worth buying.
Beautiful travel destinations.
Honest product recommendations.
And those are exactly the things I love talking about.
So I'm Trying Something New
Instead of letting all of my content disappear after a few days...
I'm going to give it a second life.
That gorgeous Pinterest pin?
It can become a blog.
A blog can become a newsletter.
The newsletter can inspire another Instagram post.
One idea.
Several places.
Working long after I hit Publish.
Honestly...that feels a lot smarter.
Why I'm Sharing This
If you're a creator like me, you don't have to know everything about SEO.
I certainly don't.
But I do think it's worth paying attention to where the internet is headed.
People aren't just scrolling anymore.
They're searching.
And I want to create content that's still helping someone six months from now.
Maybe even five years from now.
My Goal
This isn't about chasing another algorithm.
It's about building something that lasts.
I'm still going to share beautiful homes, wellness, travel, and everyday inspiration.
The difference is...
Now I'm also asking myself:
"Will someone be searching for this next month?"
If the answer is yes...
That's content worth creating.
Before You Go...
I'd love to know...
Do you use Google Search Console?
Or are you like I was just a few days ago, finally realizing there's a whole new way people can discover your content?
Let's learn together.
With gratitude,
Candace
